The Daily News
Happy Monday, Warriors' fans!!!
Er...let me rephrase...
It's like this. Everybody has a bad day.
Happens.
I'll leave it at that.
Brutal.
The Dubs will be all right. Their issues were mental. Some teams feast on that. Did they give up? Nah. They just played it smart. They weren't going to come back from that, not without sustaining a bunch of heroic injuries. Draymond fell into their piss-a-guy-off trap. I don't think he will next time.
Next time. New day. I have tremendous faith in these guys.
Go Dubs.
Moving On, Part One: You know how I grope around sometimes on slow news days?
You don't?
I love you, man.
No, some days are just slow.
So. These past few ones ain't.
Let's begin. I want first to congratulate my cousin Diane's daughter Chelsea on her graduation from Carondelet High School. She's always been a bright and amazing kid, and suddenly she is staring at a wonderfully bright future. We all stand proud!
So good to see. Gives all of us hope and a sense of world adventure! Go Chels!!!
On her way! Congratulations Chelsea
Bailey c/o 2016!!!
Moving On, Part Two: On Saturday, we were all blessed as it was the day that Maren and Isla were baptized at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament downtown.
Tons of people, so many so that getting a good picture was nearly impossible.
Honestly. My iPhone couldn't capture the place. Here are some pics I didn't take, but they capture the essence of the place pretty well:
Congratulations to my beautiful babies for receiving their first sacrament. It gave me chills.
We followed with a nice party, and had fun with guests and food and stuff. Small get-together, but the yard worked magic.
The trouble with all of it were the pictures we took of everything just seemed a trifle off. Add to this that last night, the picture-posting feature on blogspot was unavailable, and you could see that I was a sodden rag.
I began writing all of this early enough, knowing I had more news than I could possibly cover with the writing of itself, never mind fishing around for fancy pictures.
My hats can help do that; I'm thoroughly convinced.
Anybody lookin'?

Congrats to all, once again!
Moving On, Part Four: I got so frustrated with trying to battle all the mind-of-its-own possession that evidently overtook my laptop last night that I decided to go outside for a walk.
My walks tend to go from an hour an hour and a half, depending upon time of day, location, light, those sorts of things.
I didn't want to go outside to walk, but sometimes my walking around the house is not only annoying, it looks sorta dumb. Walking around the block, or on the hiking trail right next to my house is always a better option, which I decided to do at around twilight.
I had that reluctance we all go through when we don't want to go somewhere or do something: I couldn't find my keys; I had to change my shoes; I needed to find a sweatshirt, I forgot to water the plants...
In reality, what it always boils down to this: I don't want to go where I am going.
Exercising is a perfect example. We all want exercise, but we also know that it requires changing clothes, putting on special shoes and socks, getting to wherever, putting in the hour or so, coming home, showering, throwing everything in the wash, and blah, blah, blah.
Piece of cake.
Anyway, I was going through all that hemming and hawing, and finally opened my front door and stepped out front.
I heard a mild, "Help me..." and looked over to see a very distraught young teenager stumbling to my front lawn. He said, "I'm not a robber or anything." He started crying. "I was just jumped on the trail. They beat me up and stole my phone. Four of them."
I looked up to be sure he wasn't trying to play me. Natural tendency. "What's your name? I'm a teacher; maybe I could help, " I said.
"Jeffrey," he said. He was clearly upset and not acting. I had seen this a few times over my years as a teacher. It's pretty easy to tell.
"Why don't you come in, Jeffrey, and we'll get you a glass of water." He appreciated it, walked in, and said, "You want me to take off my shoes?"
I couldn't believe how thoughtful that young man was. I also know that shoes track mud in, and said, "Actually, yeah, that might be nice." I think it made him feel a bit more relaxed as well.
Helene came in the room, and I explained what had just happened. Jeffrey said he thought he might have a concussion, and stumbled. "I'd better call 9/11," I said. "Those guys are still out there, and Jeffrey might need some assistance."
While I dialed 9/11, Helene asked Jeffrey if he'd like to call his Mom. He did, and I could hear her screaming on the other end of the line, worried sick. We gave her our address; fortunately they lived just down the street. She got to our house fast. Her daughter was with her, and she had a cell phone also, just in case. Good thing.
My phone wouldn't do a 9/11 call for some reason. Really. Helene borrowed the daughter's phone and called, and they had her hand the phone to Jeffrey. We were all out in front of my house. Dusk lightly colored the sky and clouds. Tiny birds flew in perfect formation. Within seconds a helicopter appeared over our house. It was clearly searching the neighborhood for those boys.
Jeffrey was seventeen, and he still said, "Mommy, I got mugged." My heart dropped. I'm guessing he'd hate me for reporting this, but he was a mannerly young man, and was doing pretty well. Just brave, but scared at the same time. It's difficult to describe.
Eventually it all settled down. Two police cars parked at the end of our street, and I saw others driving past. I felt really safe. Jeffrey got to go home with his Mom and his sister. We settled down. Helene texted our local version of Neighborhood Watch and informed everyone.
And suddenly, all was quiet. The Warriors' loss seemed absolutely miniscule. It was a moment.

And I still needed to go for my walk. I decided to drive over to Safeway and walk into a place aptly named. I took a cart, and began relaxing, going up and down aisles just to keep my feet moving. Then...
"Ladies and gentlemen, your Safeway will be closing in ten minutes. Please bring all of your purchases to the front of the store..."
...
So my aptly-named Safeway theory blew up in my face. But it also magically brought forth a fun Heidi trip. I may need to submit "Heidi Trip" to Urban Dictionary, except people would need to understand that they occur when a coincidence with a strong feeling to it happens, or a series of coincidences happen, often with the numbers one, nine, or the name "Heidi" in it. Here's a super-quick overview:
Long-Story-Short, Dept: When I first taught at Yerba Buena High School years ago, students felt they had reached a ghost named Heidi, just before Halloween. They did it with a Ouija board (I am adamantly against the use of those things!), and the coincidences are often associated with the numbers one and nine.
They were also associated with Disney's Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln. Over the years I have had tremendous coincidences surrounding those things, usually during times of high emotion or stress.
A few days ago, for example, I found myself rushed, and franticly writing an email, when right in the middle of writing, I had a Heidi thought cross my mind swiftly, and then vanish. I looked up at the TV, and Heidi Klum was writing the name "Heidi" on the TV. She was, of course, in a brassiere and using lipstick, but still. My eyes went straight to the name "Heidi" being written. I got really scared.
You believe that, I got a train to sell you.
Or...you get it. Because you've had a few Heidi trips yourself. Okay. Here is an example. I JUST edited this, and thought I might try to pick that Heidi lipstick thing up from Google images. It wasn't there. But there WAS a picture of Heidi Klum. Here is what JUST appeared. Five seconds ago:\
<sigh> It's a livin'. I don't make this crap up. Living proof. Hope it didn't scare you. It scared the bejeezus out of me. Ah, whatevs. Let's move on.
And so. Finally, this is the last week for the DN. I knew that it wasn't going to be easy, but it sure got a jump-start last night. And just now.
Long-time readers will be getting lots of old, goofy things.
I haven't decided where to go after that, but I will keep this open, like a library, for as long as life. I will probably post the link once a week, Sunday nights?
Sure, why not? Someone needs to remind me each Sunday. Any volunteers?
Gottago.
Look forward to lots more, and I expect nothing but more weirdness and coincidences.
OH! Here's one I forgot about! After I left Safeway, I walked into Raley's to do my walking last night. I settled down, and then saw an old guy wearing a yellow shirt. It said in a sort of cloud font, "Walk."
Think I'll do that right after I launch this.
See you again.
Have a GREAT day.
Peace.
~H~
