The DN

I didn't want to put this out there quite yet, but it is officially time to begin Halloween.

  I battled the stores.

They remained relentless. They not only have had pumpkins and stuff shoving Back-to-School night to the back burner, they are beginning to bring in Thanksgiving AND Christmas.

  No lie.

  Not this guy.

I'm still goofing on summer, and baseball.

  And yet...

  Not gonnna lie.

  EVER.

But my printer got haunted last night.

I needed to have vocab lists ready and steady for next week. I update them every couple of years. Lately I have brought in illustrations lately, just for a lark.

The lists I updated last night were literary terms, which a) make for some of the best lists, full of knowledge, and b) make for a fun time searching for funny illustrations, and c) can be used for both English 1A  and 2A. Easy Street, right?

 <basketball buzzer>

My English 2A stuff delivered. I found an older version of Important Literary Terms, edited them, brought them to the present, and then added a picture of Toto and Dorothy to illustrate the word "allusion."

I could easily have thrown a pic of Caesar getting stabbed every which way but Tuesday but decided against it. English 2A is Caesar, but I thought, "Wouldn't it be better if I brought a little Caesar into the English 1A kids? I would be helping support all the English 2A teachers AND their students.

I decided I would pull the old switcheroo.

English 2A was getting Toto and Dorothy, and I would bring in the assassination of Caesar to my English 1A students, since they shall study Julius Caesar next year.

As always, I thought it a grand idea.

 How can ya miss?

Uh...your printer runs out of ink?

  Ha!

At first I wanted to jump off the hood of a Buick.

  Fortunately cooler heads prevailed.

I knew what I had to do.

I need do nothing more than replace the black printer cartridge.

Sure the Caesar stuff was in color, but I knew that the school's printer would default to black and white.

So I printed the English 2A stuff.

  It came out beautifully!

Toto and Dorothy looked as glamorous as ever.

I then commanded the English 1A stuff to print the Julius Caesar stuff. I thought myself brilliant for laying down the Ides of March for next year's teacher.

  <basketball buzzer>

  Uh...no?

The printer freaked out. I it ran out of black ink.

It ran out of color ink.

It refused to do anything but make me want to throw IT off the hood of a Buick.

  I got up.

I strolled around the living room.

  I took a breath.

And I realized that there was nothing I could do.

Ever feel that on a Thursday night going into a Friday? This was supposed to be easy.

  Anybody lookin'?

I put in new cartridges. It scanned, the way printers do. It printed one of those alignment thingies.

It refused to align. It printed horribly. Words from one sentence drifted into others. I printed enough to get me through, but they weren't pretty. I then walked away from it. Who has that kind of time?

I waited 'til this morning and it still did all sorts of weird things. I kept adjusting things, pushing other buttons, replacing the black cartridge, which worked for a minute and then smeared again.

The hauntings have begun. Every October. It happens every Fall.

  Speaking of which, Go Giants!!!

And Giants' fans, for the record, I played three Journey songs yesterday, for each class. My Giants' fans appreciated it. My fave was Wheel in the Sky. Don't know why.

  LET'S GET 'EM!!!

 Gottago.

  See you again.

  Peace.
