Happy Frideeeeeee!!!!!!!
I the took all the garbage out last night and got deja vu.
As long as this week was, didn't we ALL just take the garbage to the curb?
If you are a person who lives in my area say yes.
If you live in New Zealand say no.
<crickets>
Jayzuss.
I also realized at the end of the night yesterday that I had to lay out my school spirit clothes for today.
These include a shirt, Cougar-colored tie, black and teal football jersey and a wonderful newsie/Disney cap that I wore at my daughter Nicoley's wedding.
I rocked that outfit last night late.
I love it.
All ain't perfect, but it is fun. I loves me some spirit Fridays. Makes me proud to be a teacher.
Moving On, Part One: Speaking of which, here is a joke that this student threw at me yesterday. She's from my last class of the day. This class is filled to the brim with writers.
She caught me in the midst of handing stuff out. She caught me off guard.
She is uber cool because she wrote this on the board last week: "Mr. Harrington is uber cool!"
When I finished handing out the last thing that needed handing out she randomly hit me
with a joke.
She said,"Mr. Harrington, do you want to hear a joke?"
I stopped. "Of course."
"What do you call a cross between a cow and a knight?"
I hesitated, then pondered. English teachers majored in pondering.

"I don't know. What do you call a cross between a cow and a knight?"
She looked up wowed that I didn't know.
"Sir Loin!"

I laughed. There I was doing what I have affectionately called The Race, zooming around collecting work and handing things out simultaneously. I ran right into that one.
Sir Loin. You gotta love it.
It's a living, I tellya.
Moving On, Part Two: Even though I'm on the brink of retiring, I still feel like a rookie when I'm out there.
Teachers run scared very much of the time.
Not gonna lie.
We work really hard, but it is really easy for lessons to unravel.
We learn how to improv to fill extra time, or to hustle to fit the lesson into the one-hour slot.
Different classes move at different paces, so the art of being in front of the class is not so much an art as it is a circus act, like walking a tightrope or juggling plates with sticks.
Transitions during lessons must be smooth and precise. Any interruption knocks us off our feet.
And don't EVER call during a lesson.
It is a slippery slope.
That's why we all enjoy Fridays. Fridays are Fridays as in any profession. Everyone relaxes their shoulders. Today is particularly fun because we are supposed to excessively rock our school colors.
It is Extreme Spirit Day Friday today, which makes everyone smile.
I always loved school spirit days dating back to my high school days, which were somewhere around when salt was invented.

Looking forward to the day.
I can't always say that, but today should be fun.
I hear Tom Jones singing It's Not Unusual in the other room.
I have to assume that's my cue to go. Some sort of goof on Facebook no doubt. Ahhh! It was actor Alfonso Ribeiro doing the Carlton on Dancing With the Stars.
Here's the link. Have fun.
Gottago.
Have a GREAT Friday.
Peace.
~H~
