In my meanderings through rock music this week, I found this quote:
"Spiritual and essential will never go out of style on this
planet."
---Carlos Santana
Carlos. Your words cleanse many who just heard of the passing of Maurice White.
Creator and founder of Earth, Wind & Fire. A bazillion hearts dropped on hearing the news.
Fitting, I suppose, in a week dedicated to music.
Let us look at the stats.
Singer/songwriter. Band leader. Founder of Earth, Wind & Fire. Arranger. Record producer. And, respectfully, musician.
Inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Songwriters Hall of Fame, Vocal Group Hall of Fame, Nominated for 21 Grammy awards, and winner of seven Grammy's.

There is so much more. I heard this news late last night, so I'm still at a loss for words. I suppose keeping it understated might be the easiest go. I look out my window and once again sigh. I have little more to say, just because.
Another amazing musical presence has left us, but not our hearts. May you add soul, both spiritual and essential, to the seraphim, dude. And thank you, Carlos, for always being ahead of the game. Maurice, form a band up there, and deliver the works through sunsets, mountains, flowers, and dew drops. Most of us will know. Peace, man.

Moving On, Part One: I kept trying to write this stuff last night, and to hold Isla on the couch. I held her with my right hand and tried typing out this stuff with my left, not an easy maneuver.
She decided that my arm was a tree and that she was a koala.
The result was what you are reading right now.
Nobody said this was easy.
Little ones.
Moving On, Part Two: Nice to see that last night's debate between Hillary and Bernie went ignored by the social media, at least early on.
Dudes.
Think 'Murica, which just don't think.
We are sailing into Super Bowl weekend.
So politics takes a back seat.
They squared. Bernie looked better than he normally does (somewhere in there I saw some post on Facebook showing Bernie running toward some guy who fainted, a bad political strategy) but to the public, Hillary did a better job all night.
I'm outside observing here. I have my candidate, but I refuse to say who because I get tired of ridiculous shouting and non-listening.
I will say that my politics have always been transparent and out there publicly.
Listen: The news is manipulated and controlled.
I have put myself out there.
Lots of echoes.
And I really don't see a lot of Facebook posts that even give a hint there was a debate last night.
Let's face it: Most people care more about Denver v. Jacksonville.
Just sayin'.
Save it 'til next week.
Next week.
Moving On, Part the Thoid: I just opened my mouth and yawned like a lion.
It was a huge yawn.
I had just re-read what I had already written.
If I promise better next week, would you toss me a raw roast beast?
I'm pretty sure I could spend the remainder of the day gnawing and jawing.
Hey.
Wait a minute.
Isn't that what goes on at political conventions?
Moving On, Part Four: So.
The Super Bowl is in Santa Clara, and somehow I am not going to be any part of it. I intend to be in the Bay Area, but at my sister Gayle's house enjoying a cioppino feed and game.
I can't wait.
I am an NFL kid. I was born a Niner fan, and used to go to Kezar Stadium in San Francisco rooting for my Niners at an early age.
I love football. I turn my head at its recent thugism, and its obvious steroid issues.
Picking on Payton Manning right now is bush.
Let these two teams play by today's standards; we can chase that tiger when this is over.
It needs chasing, undoubtedly. So does gambling and the NFL.
Shove that stuff aside for this one. I see a witch hunt.
What disturbs me is how the NFL's blind look at those issues sends a message to younger players. That has always disturbed me.
I hope it gets addressed immediately following this game. But the game proper is out of control, and needs serious changes.
I realize this is hypocritical, but if you have not been hypocritical in the last six months, would you kindly step forward?
Didn't think so.
Anyway, I gottago. Still love youse.
Long week, wow.
Raise a glass. And Maurice, look around. You are free to gig beyond music.
See you again. Have a GREAT weekend.
Peace.
