Friday.
Good.
I was running out of things to write about.
It is technically Thursday if you have any knowledge of how I shovel this stuff these days.
I'm watching Gilmore Girls. Do I need to get looked at?
It's after three in the afternoon yesterday and I'm waiting on a football game.
I already know.
Don't rub it in, but I knew yesterday just after three in the afternoon that the 49ers were walking into another train wreck.
So what do you say we call it a day and move on?
"Okay!" I said.
Okay it is now the morning after the night before. It is 7:22 a.m. as I begin.
Everything pointed to the Niners losing yesterday. I'm not going to go into the amount of players who were injured, exhausted, lacking spirit and all that.
I had read enough and heard enough last week to know it wouldn't be pretty. Items 1-10 this morning were written yesterday.
Before the game CBS played a somber montage focusing on "The Face of the Franchise." It was artistic. It was also weird and tone-setting. It focused on winning, but also on failure.
They moved to the game and my foreshadowing during the afternoon soon came to the forefront.
From the Niners first possession, the game resembled what can only be described as Deflated Gate. They began with a cheap pass, and ended their first drive resembling an eighteen-wheeler with seventeen flat tires.
The first drive by the Seahawks was the complete antithesis. They came out fierce, unleashing Marshawn Lynch, a wild beast running anywhere and everywhere he desired.
The Niners gave up the entire length of the field within three minutes, and then decided to show up for a few plays.
They handed off to Lynch around ninety times in a row. When it looked like he hopped over everyone to score, the camera moved from the action to Colin Kaepernick standing on the sidelines.
He looked like a little boy whose ice cream had fallen off the cone.
His newly curled and coiffed hair looked absurd. It looked like his mom did his hair before the game, and finished it with a slick lick. He looked like a lost little boy.
I'm not trying to be mean here. I'm actually sad about it all.
The second that Lynch did jump over everyone on the field and score, the camera once again repeated the same shot on Kap.
I saw not an NFL quarterback, but an extremely young man who was clearly scared to death.
What amazes me is that I knew the entire time that we weren't going to win, but I wanted to see an upset.
I wanted to see this team come back in the second half and focus.
They're too young and inexperienced. As an older geezer, I noticed that while the Seahawks flexed and strutted all through the game, they still couldn't get over three scores up.
Pete Carroll's decision in the first half to elect to receive in the second half paid off. He knew Kaepernick needs to get a few downs in him before he can come alive.
Get a good lead, then run in the third quarter. Easy strategy, not rocket science.
I won't/can't continue with this. To say it was a disappointing game is an understatement. To say there were poor decisions and mistakes is an understatement.
I still managed to post a few "Go Niners!" stuff on the social networks, because I was born a Niner fan.
I watched games at Kezar. I ran down on the field after games and slapped huge, bloody guys on their shoulder pads. I watched kids pick up seat cushions as soon as the crowd thinned out. I watched the sea gulls swoop in and enjoy wet garbage.
I went through it all.
But I got shushed yesterday, by Marshawn Lynch and company.
I know a lot of Niner fans are feeling it this morning. We got the hurt put on us by a superior team.
A whole bunch of it was clearly physical, but a whole bunch more was mental.
And the ol' G-Pa in me felt sorry for our young fellows. I really wished they could have come out feeling that nobody could beat them. I never saw that.
I saw some great moments, but too few.
I also noticed a silent crowd. Oh, there were fans out there making noise, but I got the definite feeling that a bunch of fans were more than likely up in the bars.
Why you would go to a football game, pay a couple hundred dollars for a ticket, and then go into the bars and hop on Facebook is beyond me.
They don't do that in Seattle.
Just sayin'.
As for the "The Face of the Franchise?"
That's a tough one. Why did Tomsula allow him to begin the game in the pocket? What kind of drug was he on?
Well, it's over. At least that horrific game is. I'm hearing fans saying things like, "Why don't they get Montana, Young, and Lott in there to inspire these guys?"
I don't know.
I woke up this morning expecting to just leave items 1-10 intact, and then to move instantly in another direction. I moved all that out of the way and set it aside for Monday.
I woke up early. I turned on the light, went into the living room, and saw my white Montana jersey neatly folded and placed on top of a magazine on the coffee table.
I guess it was one of the loneliest sights I have seen in quite a while.
It's all good. Wish I could say that.
The Niners will improve. Once they let Colin get under the center and let him play his game, they should improve.
Changes need to be made. Dad had season tix for a bazillion years. When he passed, I felt guilty because I needed to come up with thirty-thousand dollars in order to keep them. I did mention it to him before he left, and he said out of the side of his mouth, "I wouldn't keep 'em!"
I don't know and will never know if that was true. But to say this horrific manure this franchise is throwing out there is fair to the season ticket holders is unconscionable.
To put the blame on a young, frightened quarterback is a shame.
The team needs to rise up, pull together, and practice, practice, practice. Look to guys like Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, Ronnie Lott, Steve Young, and I could go on forever.
And somehow survive all this.
I think I'm done.
Sorry about the rant, particularly on a Friday.
Y'all have a good one.
Haha, I spelled "one" "won."
Gave me a chuckle. It might have been Dad.
Good luck, Niners' fans. I'd love to think I woke up a nation. I'm pretty sure I'm one of many voices isolated in the wilderness. I didn't wake up anybody.
I'm pretty sure I just woke up, or I wouldn't write such lofty nonsense.
Gottago.
Thanks for listening.
See you again.
Peace.
