Thanksgiving. Perfect time for a much-needed break.
This time it WAS.
I had time for family. I had time to visit, to eat, to laugh, to practice songs on guitar and to sing by a crackling fire. I even had time to put up holiday decorations.
And I liked the time spent doing that stuff. Thanksgiving was at Josh and Caitlin's house in Sac. Visiting meant eating, laughing and even practicing old songs.
For no reason I learned A Hard Day's Night, first time ever with that tune. I never could get those opening and closing chords. I had time. I never have time for anything, but I had time.
I got this online guitar teacher who used three different guitars to make the song sound clangy and fun. What a rocker!
Caitlin and Nicole worked miracles with fresh herbs, dazzling spices, and decadent desserts.
Amount of time spent on school stuff during that period: zero.
Amount of time spent talking, laughing, singing and enjoying: tons!
Wow.
Remember those days?
Oh, we went online now and again, but overall, breaking Thanksgiving to a back yard with a fire and live guitar and singing worked magically.
I played a bunch of songs quietly under the conversations and laughs.
I'm pretty sure Ron, Unc, Mom and Dad joined us for a bit, although I'm sure their dance cards were booked. I understand that in heaven, you choose different ages of your life to morph into. I know this to be a fact. As you know.
Did the Niners get spanked?
Yup.
Did I care?
Nah, not really. During the game yes, but when your quarterback is throwing lasers directly into the hands of your worst enemy, anger is pointless. That team was completely unprepared for that game. Just sayin'.
As Ronnie woulda put it, "It is what it is."
And right back into the jaws of philosophy.
That's what happens when life throws horseshit at you. Ask the Raiders. The St. Louis Rams looked like bullies. They were. No NFL game should ever run up that many points. Ridiculous. No class. The Rams are officially no-account bums, and headed nowhere.
"It is what it is."
Love that guy.
Even though he seems to be not here, he is still here in spirit and in laughs.
Good times.
I write this stuff in the peace that was last night.
I cleaned my gutters, even used Windex and ammonia to clean them up shiny. I then threw a pretty nice Christmas light design into the hood.
I love lighting large trees with subtle shadows and touches, and front yards that beg fun light designs.
If you have designed shows, you know.
Everything must be understated, if you consider yourself an artist of any degree.

Period.
And this makes sense.
So allow us to make that real.

Was that understated enough?
I think so. But then again...
Like, who IS this moron?
And the indulgent others?
Just some guy who can't wait to go back to work.
Glorified nerd.
The teevee news just declared this week Cyber Week.
Oy.
No shame.
Moving On, Part One: I'm a teacher.
I go in today with contract issues.
Insulting.
This stuff should have been wrapped up two months ago.
We are still working to rule, which basically means we plan nothing, grade nothing, answer nothing and do nothing outside of the school day. This is, of course, impossible.
It is. Many of us are fudging just so we can have classes.
It looked to me like the Niners and Raiders were working to rule. Same results.
I did enjoy a LOT more time to do normal things, and it sure was nice.
They need to get this resolved. Godspeed.
Anyway, coffee break is over. Back on your heads. Oh, and it is Monday following a holiday. Fly low. It'll all be over fast!
See you again.
Peace.
