The DN

 Happy Monday

I don't know about anybody else, but I'm happy it's here.

  No but SERIOUSLY.

  Congrats Raider fans.

  I'm already over that game.

I get over stuff a lot faster these days.

And I don't do anything too fast anymore.

Except escape the school each day at exactly 3:30.

You'll know I'm on the road when hear a sonic boom.

Ah, meh. Got my holiday on. Did a bunch of Christmas decorating and hanging out with Nicole and Rene AND the charmingly magnificent Rocket J. Dog socializing at the Humane Society.

He has become quite the diplomat. We met all sorts of awesome dogs. Rocky became the Rock Hudson of dogs. Sniffing, charming and well mannered. He has matured into a fine young lad.

You can't have those moments when you aren't breaking your neck planning and grading. So I didn't break my neck planning and grading.

Instead I cooked, learned songs on guitar, raked leaves and talked with people in live conversations.

  Fancy that.

Moving On, Part One: How long 'til pitchers and catchers report?

  Mondays.

  They go fast.

Before you know it we'll have Garbage Night.

Moving On, Part Two: I even got a good night's sleep. Who gets THAT these days?

AND I got exercise, which to me is reasonably long walks.

I pretend I'm hiking in the Sierra, but I'm actually covering the distance from Michael's to Best Buy.

It's still hiking, just not a lot of uphill.

I usually get into these health kicks in November. You'd THINK I would during the summer, but summer is when I do my hibernation.

  It's a livin'.

Man. I'm listening to the weather report and it would appear that I should begin work on that Ark.

  That's not 'til Thursday.

Screw the Ark. I may be sick Thursday. If we're getting dumped on by the skies, I just as soon climb back under the covers. Last Thursday I stressed all those negotiations to the point that I worried about my health. Mental health is just as important as physical health. IMHO. In my humble opinion.

Amount of days stressing this crap this year: tons.

Amount of days I've been absent this year: one, my Dad's funeral.

  I'm tough guy's son, remember?

I won't take Thursday off, because as a taxpayer, I'd be pretty pissed at myself.

And I gotta be tough for my colleagues, students and staff.

It depends on how they treat us this week. If they get ornery, I may use my voluntary hours and rest. I think my taxpayer self would get it, given my attendance record.

I don't have a good attendance record because I'm a moral taxpayer and hard worker.

I have a good attendance record because in teaching it is a pain in the ass to get a sub, provide plans, and stay the course. Inevitably something screws up.

And as a teaching addict, I would probably do a bunch of school work anyway. We do that, even IF we are working to rule.

Once again, the definition: we work only the hours we are by contract on campus. That is 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and then we do nothing else.

Of course if we REALLY did that there would be no lessons. There would be no contact with parents. There would be no current grade. There would be no recommendations. There would be no education.

All in all, we would look like the 49ers.

  O-KAY, o-KAYYYY.

Sorry. I had to punch back. They kicked their fans in the slats yesterday and then shot themselves in the foot.

I won't do that. Promise. Or I sort of promise.

  Gottago.

Have a GREAT day. Fly low.

  See you again.

  Peace.
~H~
