Maiden voyage last night.
So different.
It's one of those things that works as a fantastic lamp when I pump this thing out.
I'll watch, but I'll be a mouse in the corner. I found myself cringing a few times. I also found myself mesmerized a few times. The verdict is out. We'll see where it goes.
Moving On, Part One: I'm glad it's today.
I'll leave it at that.
I give my first bubble test today.

I'm pretty excited about that.
I'm actually pretty excited that it's Thursday already.
The same thing happened last Wednesday.
It occurred to me that it was suddenly Thursday. Just like that.
Last week I got excited that Thursday was garbage day.
There must be something to that.
Anybody lookin'?
<inhale>
<exhale>
I'm digging the weather.
I know there's a drought and all, but the afternoons have worked.
Good thing because I'm not sure I'm over whatever bit me last week.
The irony is that I NEVER get flu shots. This is the first year I ever got one, and I got violently sick last week.
It was quick, and then it stopped. The time between has kept me a bit on edge.
So far, so good.
Wow.
LOTTA guitars.
Sorry. Idol is still on.
Makes me want to grab a guitar and enjoy some music.
Like...now. Be back.

That was a much longer time than it looks. Ever have some project you hope to get done but that sits around and stares you down like a gargoyle? It's usually something that you want to do but that favors procrastination, like cleaning gutters or scrubbing a tub.
This time it was something I have WANTED to do, but my addiction to working prevents. Teaching is funny that way. You get so wrapped up in all of its insanity and daily kvetches and laughs that you can't leave it for even a minute.
I keep looking at my guitars, mics and amps. They have gathered dust this year.
Too busy.
I carry a traveling desk with me everywhere I go when school is on.
If I lift my pen for a minute I get nervous.
I have to keep grading, planning, thinking, and banging my head against the walls.
That's teaching. I don't think I've ever met a teacher who feels they have it all down.
Like me old mates the Grateful Dead used to say, "When life looks like Easy Street there is danger at your door."
And so it goes.
And so flights to Disneyland included mini-traveling desks and dictionaries.
A trip to my Dad's involves hundreds of essays.
And my guitars gather dust. They have given up on weeping.
Except just now. I stopped everything and went into the room. I blew the dust off them, took a clean rag and spruced them up, and then played. And played and played and played.
Just now. I had a mini-epiphany.

--from the delightful You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown
Music this night. That's exactly what it needed. A clean cloth and a bit of reverence.
I picked up my guitar and did the following songs: Sister Golden Hair, Your Song, America, Punky's Dilemma, I've Just Seen a Face, Can't Help Falling in Love, Riverside, Truckin',In My Life, Wait, and What I Did For Love.
I got lost in it. It boomed, swirled, and danced around.
Lots of love in lots of love songs.Well, Punky's Dilemma is about breakfast, but you get the idea. I loved playing Wait.
That Beatles's relatively unknown song followed In My Life on both the British and the American versions of Rubber Soul.
That was fun. It just happened. It's been a long time, now I'm coming back home.
Music.
I think I'm ready to go in. I just heard a garbage truck, a harbinger of good things.
I'm feeling happy.
Go in and make yourself smile today. You'll automatically make someone else's day.
Life's too short not to.
I gottago.
See you again.
Peace.
~H~
