AFTERMATH.
Holy hat that was a fun day yesterday!
It began when I wished everyone a good weekend in yesterday's DN.
I was a bit premature. Or not, really. I sort of began this weekend yesterday. Even though I worked, it was more like a vacay, since I set up camp in the Theater and re-told the Heidi Chronz.
Every period, without fail, turned cold during the Titanic passages. I got SO cold in my class right before lunch that I had to go into the lobby to warm up.
The difference was like going from the dead of winter to the aliveness of mid-July. The change in temp was that dramatic.
It didn't get a little cold during the Titanic sessions; it got a lot cold.
What is interesting is that I explained to my classes the other day that our Theater HVAC is, or at least has been run from a computer room above the gym.
This sounds like an urban legend except that I had to call the one guy who knew how to work the thing out of retirement one year to ensure that the cast and crew of The Nutcracker wouldn't freeze solid at the end of the first act. I mentioned this to my classes a few days ago.
It's a long story, as they all are, but it has to do with pipes getting so hot that the heater shuts down, and regular air pumps through he system.
The pipes need time to cool down before you could fire them back up.Or something. Don't quote me on any of this. Bottom line: once the heater stops, cold air pumps through. That's science. I think. I'm not sure. I majored in pondering.
Yesterday when I hit the lobby at lunch, several girls from the orchestra were practicing songs from...The Nutcracker (see Nutcracker reference, above.) This is completely unrelated to The Nutcracker mentioned previously, which was a private dance company.
Just another coincidence, I imagine.
Because the lobby of the Theater was so toasty, I decided to take roll and to check emails while warming up on the couch. After having sat in the deep chill of the Theater, it felt nice to be in the lobby. It also felt nice when I saw an email saying that our checks were in.
I walked over to the main office, talked a bit with Matt Hall and Dee Dee, and as I was leaving I heard Dee Dee ask no one in particular, "Do you know where Heidi is?" I stopped in my tracks. We had JUST finished an intense Heidi Chronz session in the Theater ten minutes earlier.
Just another coincidence, I imagine.
Anybody lookin'?
I almost mean it this time. This stuff has been happening a LOT this year. A lot of it is documented in this "blog." (God I dislike calling the DN a "blog." You have no idea.) AnywayZZZZ...
I haven't listed one third of the coincidences that have occurred this year, especially things leading up to yesterday.
Fortunately I have documented plenty.
I doubt that I will even put them all together until MAYBE next year, because like all things, these stories tend to end abruptly.
Don't get me wrong; I LOVE the coincidences, especially this year. I had so many I gave up writing them all down, but trust me, they were there in droves.
I'm still spinning.
And I am to tell parts of my story at the Homecoming Dance on Saturday.
It occurred to me that ASB might not want me to tell all the Heidi stuff, that I may need to shorten it.
I'm willing.
Yesterday exhausted me. I wasn't as precise with the stories as I have been in the past. They take longer to explain, because this is a generation that has immediate knowledge at their fingertips.
When I explain that we didn't have a million teevee channels, texts, clouds, or hashtags back in the day, the students almost don't get it.
Technology has outrun schools by decades.
Schools try to keep up, but that stuff gets complicated.
So I have to slow down and explain that the world worked at a dynamically slower pace when these stories unfolded. I can't just bring up old episodes of a comedy show that I saw one time on one afternoon long ago.
I don't wish to stray here.
I guess the bottom line is that by the time I deliver the Heidi Chronz on Halloween, I am pretty exhausted.
Keep in mind that each time I do this, electronic devices go haywire; vast amounts of physical and psychic coincidences bombard me, and occasional loud clicks happen on my teevee, usually during an old movie.
So the stories often stop. I simply don't have the time nor the energy to keep them current.
By the beginning of November I'm ready to tuck all this stuff away.
This year I also still worry about my health. Yes, the doctor has said I can get off my pills, but I want them to scan me and measure my stuff so that I get a clean bill of health.
Yesterday, for example, I went to the supermarket to get something or other, but when I got out I couldn't remember where I had parked. I usually try to park in the same basic area every time I go, but I got out, remembered I had parked close, but swooned a bit when I didn't immediately see my car.
I'm not quite sure if it was the result of exhaustion or whatever, but I had to stop for an instant to catch my bearings.
Possible chocolate overload. Quite possible. It could also be other things.
All work, no play. But some of the work seems like play, so it's a bit sneaky. ; ) <-----------------frivolous winky emoticon dude
Anyway, my report on yesterday's Chronz would probably be go something like this: I had late starts every period, and barely made it to the end of the stories, but made it.
Bottom line.
I hit paydirt in at least three classes, but still had timing concerns, as well as moments when I couldn't remember if I was talking about a show called Biscuits, called that because it had a lot of roles, or Ship of Fools, the show that featured my mysterious one-act called simply Titanic.
In most cases I caught myself, but I did make an error or two in chronology.
The Ouija board and Yadda part, when delivered, worked, although I had to rush them a bit in some classes. I don't think anybody really noticed, but I will straighten those things out today. Major scary moments in the story.
And Saturday? I tell stories at 9:30 at night, outside at the Homecoming Dance.
I'll make it happen.
Can't wait.
That's about all I could throw at you on this morning after. Hope you aren't suffering chocolate hangovers; they're the worst.
Work out. Get that sugar out of your system.
And then go have an awesome weekend.
Stay safe.
See you again.
Peace.
~H~
