The DN

[Note: I would like to preface today's Daily News with a report that a student at our school, Ravi Sharma, was crossing the street a few days ago and was hit by a car. His family has asked that we all send out thoughts, prayers, and love for young Ravi, who is recuperating in the hospital as of this writing. Collective prayers are welcome gifts. Many thanks.]

Here is today's DN:

 <yawwwwwn>

  Whoa!

  Whaattttttttt?

It is 11 p.m. I was putting the finishing touches on the good ol' DN.

  I saved as I wrote.

The computer suddenly popped everything off, so I decided to restart.

After the restart I went back on and everything disappeared!

It was a long diatribe about the absurdity of this entire week at school, but still.

   It had its <ahem> moments.

Funny, there was a time that discovering something like this at 11 p.m. would have made me grab a cat o' nine tails and flog myself with spikes and vinegar.

Instead I rolled with all of it.

Sometimes this thing comes alive when a panic sets in.

It wasn't a bad piece, just one filled with lots of huge cat yawns and licked paws.

We had a week that turned upside down from the first day, and I simply wrote about how many of us somehow managed to still throw touchdowns even though we scrambled all over the place. This includes our students.

  Football analogies.

I used to be famous for them.

Actually I've never really been famous for too much of anything, those what knows me knows that I be famous fer football analogies.

  Oh no!

There's an old pirate movie on TCM right now, and I'm slipping into pirate talk.

  I'll avoid it.

Bunch of guys drinking wine and looking like they are right out of Disney.

They even have a Captain Morgan in it, only he is a fat and triple-chinned actor named Laird Cregar.

I've no time whatsoever to get you all the poop on this swashbuckling deck, but it makes for a great filter here at four ones at night, 11:11.

  Gottago fast here.

Late hours, cryptic warnings about saving this stuff, and the distinct possibility that the bottom could fall out of this garbage in the blink of an eye.

   And it's only Thursday.

   It's all good.

Thursdays usually rock in the teaching world.

   So it's all good.

I just can't get back all that got lost.

Doesn't matter. There's a great sunrise scene that looks all Disney-pirate. Toothless lockout on the mast, potential trouble at sea, red sky at morning, and a "not a ship in sight" order which is sure to lead to a huge sea battle.

  Or not.

  Who cares?

  Pirates.

Always popular. This one features what must be the prototype for the popular Captain Morgan today.

A paunchy actor with chins, squirrel cheeks, and a button-popping chest.

Mae West with a black beard.

I've no time to fill in the details, even if I could.

  Ahhhhhh!!!

He just took off his wig and looked hideous.

This Captain Morgan is an imposter!

  Okay.

  Anybody lookin'?

  The clock continues to tick.

Time's winged chariot once again right up in my heels.

  It's all good.

I should write this off as some sort of Heidi trip, but I'm just too sleepy.

I WAS saving this stuff. Usually when I lose a DN it's because I hadn't been saving, but this one I had.

It just shut down and disappeared, as I was putting the finishing touches on it.

I may lose this one, even though I have saved it several times already.

I think I'll tuck this little baby to bed and get back in the morning.

I need to pepper it with pirates, or it will be useless.

   <Looking about> All clear?

   Okay, think we're good.

I prefaced this DN with a sobering moment that took place earlier this week. I didn't want to say much until I knew more information. We had an accident near the school earlier in the week. A cross-country student, Ravi Sharma was struck by a car while moving in a crosswalk. He was rushed to the hospital where they have checked him for multi-injuries. As of yesterday he seemed okay, and has been responding any time he hears a family member.

The family has asked for love, prayers, poems, posters, and any other thoughts of love to be put out there. I agree, and I believe those sorts of things can make anyone strong. I ask that you and everyone you know give a thought to Ravi today. More than once, and as powerful as you can. Spiritual love is powerful. Let's join in that effort.

   Thank you all so much.

   Peace.

~H~
